The CRB offers a range of
services, and is working on further projects to add new
services to benefit its customers.
The following is a basic overview of each of the services we
provide. To get more in depth information please click on the
service title. To find out more information on services we may
provide in the future visit our future

The CRB was established to provide a service called
Disclosure, which allows employers to access the conviction
histories of people working, seeking to work or volunteering to
work with children or vulnerable adults.
Certain posts are excepted from the provisions of the
Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and in such posts, the
employer can request details of all spent and unspent
convictions.
Prior to the CRB this access was limited largely to government
authorities and a few other areas. The CRB widened this access and
ensures that the information it discloses is made available to the
employer and the applicant.
Online tracking is a service that allows applicants, who know
the number of their application form, to follow the progress
of their application through the various stages.
This service is particularly useful to ensure the CRB receives a
form and to check that an issued Disclosure is received once
dispatched.
The service does not give any personal information and so long
as the form number and date of birth is known, the information can
be checked by anyone.
For those people who are registered to countersign application
forms the service is expanded to allow them to access all the cases
they have been the countersignatory for. It will also allow a lead
countersignatory to access all the applications submitted by their
organisation.
Again, this is very useful for ensuring that applications do not
go astray and allows organisations to be able to give progress
reports more quickly and without the need to contact the CRB.
The Care Standards Act established a provision for the
Department of Health to provide and maintain a list of people who
it bars from working with vulnerable adults.
Those employing people to posts that involve working with
vulnerable adults may be able to request a check of the Vulnerable
Adults Barred list.
ISA Adult First is a service provided to some organisations for
which there is a statutory requirement for a ISA Adult
First check before a person can be recruited to a post. It
allows a person to be checked against the Vulnerable Adults
Barred list as an initial and independent check to permit them
to be recruited and start work whilst supervised pending a
satisfactory CRB Check.
The e-Bulk service is aimed at our larger customers, who submit
more than 3,000 applications per year. The e-Bulk allows customers
to submit multiple electronic-applications and receive the results
back electronically. The e-Bulk service offers a range of benefits
for larger customers:
- Greater accuracy - all information sent via e-bulk is checked
for completeness and transcription errors are reduced.
Figures suggest it would reduce by seven percent.
- Faster results – the e-bulk service will reduce the average
processing time by around 5 days from 28 to 23.
- Fewer forms to complete – customers can integrate the CRB data
requirements into their own recruitment processes and application
form.
