In accordance with the Criminal records Act
No.5352, to obtain a copy of their criminal record, individual’s
can apply either to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the area
where they reside or to the General Directorate for Criminal
Records in Ankara or to the Turkish Consulates if they are
abroad.
Application channels
Criminal records can only be disclosed to
- The individual themselves
- The legal representative of the individual, i.e as stated in a
power of attorney
- The public authorities
The application for certificates of criminal record should
include
- The purpose of the request
- A signed application form
- Identity details, i.e Turkish ID card, passport or driving licence

Applications within Turkey
For Turkish nationals
To obtain a certificate of criminal record, individual’s can
apply to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in their area of residency
in Turkey or to the General directorate for Criminal Records in
Ankara, the address of which is provided below:

Individual’s should complete the application form, sign it,
state the purpose of the request and apply in person to the
aforementioned authorities. The application form can be downloaded

Applications cannot be made via post and should be submitted by
the persons themselves or by their legal representatives. The
applicant should provide the identity details of the person whose
criminal record is requested.
For public authorities
Public authorities can apply to the nearest Public Prosecutor’s
Office or to the General Directorate to request certificates of
criminal record. They should state clearly the purpose of their
request and provide full identity details of the persons whose
certificates are required.
For Foreign nationals
Foreign nationals resident in Turkey should apply to the General
directorate by providing the signed application form and enclosing
a copy of a valid identity card. Certificates can be issued in
English, German and French. The applicant should state the language
they prefer in their application form. The certificates for foreign
nationals can only be disclosed to themselves, upon their request
and cannot be requested by the public authorities. It is at their
discretion to submit the certificates to the relevant public
authorities

Foreign nationals resident in the United Kingdom
(UK) who have worked or
lived in Turkey should apply to the Turkish Consulate General in
London by providing the following documents and information by

Cost of certificates
Application from Turkey
The cost of each application is 5 Turkish liras and should be
made in cash.
Application from the UK
The cost of the application through the Turkish Consulate
general in London is £6 and should be sent by postal order.
Content of certificates
The Certificate of Criminal Record displays an individual’s
previous convictions confirmed by Turkish or foreign courts or in
the case of no conviction confirms that the individuals has not had
any convictions. Convictions due to disciplinary investigations,
military offences and administrative fines are not included in the
certificates.
As stipulated in Article 11 of the Act on Criminal Record,
criminal records are confidential and cannot be disclosed to the
third parties by the officers issuing the certificates and cannot
be used for purposes other than the one stated on the application
form.
Turnaround times
Applications made in Turkey are processed on the day of request
and returned the same day.
Applications made from the UK are likely to take two months
starting from the day of receipt and will be returned to the
applicant by post.
The CRB has taken all reasonable
steps to ensure that the information contained herein is as
accurate and comprehensive as possible. In order to maintain the

periodically.

level of service provided by overseas authorities. As such, please
