Latvia
Individuals can apply to the Latvian
authorities to provide extracts of criminal records from the
Latvian Penalties Register upon application to the Information
Centre of the Latvian Ministry of Interior who maintain the
Register. There are no restrictions on an individual obtaining
his/her own extract of criminal record.
Application Procedure
If applying from within Latvia
Latvian or foreign nationals living in Latvia should obtain an
application form from the
Information Centre of the Ministry of Interior of the
Republic of Latvia,
Bruninieku 72b,
Riga LV1009.
The individual must also provide their passport as proof of
their identity There is no requirement to specify the reason for
the request.
An individual may nominate a person to apply on their behalf
Such persons who can apply and receive a certificate on behalf of
an individual are:
- Close relations (father, mother, sister, brother or children)
who must provide their passport or birth certificate as proof of
their relationship
- A husband or wife upon production of a marriage
certificate
- Any other authorised person upon production of a notary’s
letter of attorney
If applying from the UK:
A Latvian national, UK national or foreign national living in
the UK who has spent a period of residence in Latvia can apply for
a Certificate of good conduct via the Embassy of the Republic of
Latvia at the following address:

The individual must submit with their completed application
form, a copy of his/her passport, in particular those pages which
contain a photograph, personal information and signature.
Cost
The cost of issuing a certificate of good conduct is 3 LVL
(approx £3) An urgent request can be made at a cost of 6 LVL
(approx £6) if the applicant wishes the extract to be processed
within one day.
Certificates are normally issued in Latvian However, for an
additional fee, the certificate can be translated into English or
Russian. This is at a cost of 2 LVL (approx £2) An urgent request
(one day) will cost an additional 3 LVL (£3) for translating the
extract into English or Russian.
There is also an additional consular fee for applicants applying
in the UK.
Content of certificates
The extract of a criminal record is printed on the special
letterhead paper of the Information Centre The certificate will
show current criminal convictions Information that has been deleted
from a record may be shown at the request of the individual An
individual's criminal record will be kept for 10 years after
his/her death.
Certificate features
The extract will contain the following features:
- Name of the issuing authority which is the Information Centre
of the Latvian Ministry of Interior
- The number of registration at Information Centre Chancery and
the date the document was signed
- The name of the place where the document was signed
- The name of the kind of document
- The signature of the chief of the Information Centre or his
Deputy’s in his absence
- Stamp of the Information Centre
Turnaround time
The certificate takes 5 working days to prepare For urgent
requests, a certificate can be processed within one day although
there is an additional charge for this service. Additional time
should be taken to send and receive applications made by post, from
the UK.
The CRB has taken all reasonable
steps to ensure that the information contained herein is as
accurate and comprehensive as possible. In order to maintain the
accuracy of the information, the CRB will update the information
periodically.
However, the CRB cannot be held responsible for the
level of service provided by overseas authorities. As such, please
do not contact the CRB regarding applications submitted to overseas
authorities
